  • Develop innovative, replicable forms of affordable housing in order to provide the greatest range of housing options for low- and moderate-income households.

Cambridge Neighborhood Apartment Housing Services, Inc. (CNAHS) is a 501(c)3 organization incorporated in 1983 using a partnership-based approach to resolve trends of disinvestment in rent controlled properties in Cambridge. In 1988, CNAHS joined with HRI, a separate non profit, to form a non-profit entity to acquire and develop rent controlled property. CNAHS expanded this partnership with HRI to share staff and resources as well as pursue development and preservation of affordable housing opportunities.

Today, CNAHS continues further its mission by developing and preserving affordable, high-quality rental housing and empowering residents through services and programming. In the recent years, CNAHS has expanded its development expertise to serve the Worcester community.

CNAHS believes that it is the responsibility of affordable housing developers to reduce our carbon footprint. Drawing on our collective experience and creative thinking, CNAHS works to combat these issues throughout the construction and renovation process so that families can enjoy healthy, energy efficient homes that help preserve our local environment and our planet. CNAHS continually seeks new ways to lessen the environmental impact of our portfolio through design, construction, and operations strategies that incorporate sustainable building practices and renewable technologies.

CNAHS also provides a range of excellent resident services programming tailored to the needs and interests of its residents. Some efforts include but are not limited to: Individual Development Account programs, an annual Scholarship Program, a computer learning center, a Lending Circles program, and many other components which aim to improve the quality of life and provide opportunities for all residents residing in CNAHS’s housing portfolio.

CNAHS is a chartered member of the national NeighborWorks® America Network.
